Norilsk says to delay several large projects for at least 2 years

MOSCOW, Jan 24 (PRIME) -- Russian metals giant Norilsk Nickel plans to delay several large projects for at least two years because of problems with equipment supplies, Senior Vice President and Production Director Sergei Stepanov told reporters on Tuesday.

The company will delay construction of the third smelting unit at Nadezhda Metallurgical Plant and construction of the second Norilsk Concentrator. Nevertheless, the company understands where it could find producers and suppliers of 80% of the necessary equipment, Stepanov said.

In spite of the problems with equipment, more than half of the company’s capital expenditures program in 2023 is not directly tied to the supplies of hi-tech equipment.

“The Sulphur Project and two or three related projects depend on these products, and we hope that we will receive even the most advanced units for them in 2023,” he said.
